Recreo VR: The Story

Founders of Recreo VR, Alex and Sam, began their journey with something deeply personal. During the difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic, both had loved ones in care.

They saw firsthand how isolation affected not only residents but also the staff, doing their best to lift spirits. Those experiences became a mission to build something that would bring joy, comfort, and connection into care settings throughout Yorkshire, the UK, and then around the world.

Recreo VR was born.

In memory of Sam’s Nana, Joyce, Recreo VR was founded with a simple but important goal: to use immersive technology to improve the quality of life for those who need it most.

When most people think of virtual reality, they picture thrill-seeking adventures, but Recreo VR takes an entirely different approach. Their experiences are calm, uplifting, and tailored specifically for care and healthcare environments.

Each virtual experience is designed to help residents explore new destinations, recall happy memories, or simply relax in a peaceful natural setting, supporting emotional wellbeing, encouraging conversation, and strengthening social connections between residents and caregivers.

Bringing care and technology together.

At Recreo VR, everything starts with understanding. The team works closely with care organisations, technology partners, and researchers to create experiences that residents enjoy, but are also accessible and easy to use.

Most of the virtual settings are filmed and created by themselves, giving every experience a personal and authentic touch. New experiences are constantly being added, keeping things fresh and exciting for those in care.

Building a network of support.

Over time, the company has proudly built partnerships with leading organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society, The National Trust, Cygnet, Barchester, and many more.

By working hand in hand with healthcare professionals, charities, and community groups, Alex and Sam ensure that every virtual environment is not only beautiful but also grounded in research and practical benefit.

How's it going?

What started as an idea rooted in compassion has grown into a recognised care technology provider making a genuine difference across the UK. Today, Recreo VR is trusted by care homes, hospitals, and organisations.

Their mission remains the same: To make technology feel personal, to create joy where it’s needed most, and to remind us all that care can be both high-tech and deeply human.

At its heart, Recreo VR is about connection.

Connection to memories. Connection to the world. And connection to one another.
